I have a three year old, and all he does is mimic everything he likes, including me.

I popped in Back To The Future, a movie I saw in the theaters when I was 6, and thought, "He'll probably love this as much as I do." After Marty McFly's line of "Holy shit!" hit the screen, that was all he would say for the next two days.

I told him it "wasn't a nice word", and did the whole parent thing (turned it off, put on a pixar movie instead. LOL), but throughout it all I understood that he was just being a kid with a new discovery, that just wanted to be cool, and be funny, like the adults in his life he idolizes so much.

Isn't that first and foremost the way we build personalities of our own?
